Het Dorp

Wim Sonneveld (1917–1974) was one of the Netherlands' most beloved singers, actors, and cabaret performers. He is considered one of the "Big Three" of post-war Dutch cabaret and is remembered for his warm voice, storytelling, and timeless songs. "Het Dorp" (The Village) is his signature song. It is a nostalgic reflection on a quiet village that has changed with time, expressing longing for the simplicity, community, and traditions of the past. Although based on the French song La Montagne by Jean Ferrat, the Dutch lyrics by Friso Wiegersma made it an iconic part of Dutch musical heritage.
